NHN Cloud Corp., one of South Korea’s prominent cloud computing service providers, has declared its proactive pursuit of the artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure market, leveraging its AI data center established in Gwangju in 2023 as its operational hub.

Having been appointed as the cloud infrastructure constructor and operator for the ‘AI-centered Industrial Convergence Complex Development Project,’ a joint initiative by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Gwangju Metropolitan City in 2021, NHN Cloud embarked on a two-year endeavor encompassing data center (DC) construction and equipment setup. The fruits of this labor came to fruition with the official commencement of operations at the national AI data center in October 2023.

NHN Cloud’s CEO, Kim Dong-hoon, outlined the company’s strategic focus for 2024, targeting the public, financial, gaming, and commerce sectors, with a specific emphasis on upholding its leadership position in the public cloud transformation domain.

Situated in Buk District, Gwangju, the two-story national AI data center, owned by Gwangju City, stands as a testament to NHN Cloud’s prowess in infrastructure development and management. Boasting a remarkable total computing capacity of 88.5 petaflops (PF) and a storage capacity of 107 petabytes (PB), the facility underscores NHN Cloud’s commitment to cutting-edge technological infrastructure.

Kim emphasized NHN Cloud‘s distinctive technical acumen in AI-specific data center design and optimization, leveraging the full potential of GPUs. NHN Cloud asserts its uniqueness as the sole data center in Korea dedicated to AI infrastructure advancement.
