Vietnamese malware researcher recognised by Adobe for detecting security vulnerabilities

Tran Van Khang, a malware researcher from Vietnam, recently gained recognition from Adobe for his efforts in detecting malware in Adobe’s latest software updates.

Mr. Khang, the leader of malware analysis at VinCSS, identified three of seven critical vulnerabilities in Adobe Illustrator, the mainstream photo development and editing software used by designers all around the world.

The three vulnerabilities, with codes CVE-2020-24409, CVE-2020-24410, and CVE-2020-24411, are categorised as high priority malware that need to be fixed.

Upon Mr. Khang’s discovery, Adobe credited his name on their security bulletin board, and a new update was released shortly, reported VnExpress.

“I am proud to have the opportunity to represent Vietnamese malware researchers in contributing to global cybersecurity,” said Mr. Khang.

VinCSS is an Internet cybersecurity company that is a subsidiary of Vietnamese conglomerate Vingroup.

In 2019, Mr. Khang became the first person in Vietnam to be granted a certificate for reverse engineering malware. Reverse engineering malware is a cybersecurity method that involves picking apart a product to identify how its original composition impacted said product.

Mr. Khang said he plans to focus on security issues in Vietnam, as a safe Internet environment would be important for the country’s development.
