Australian technology company Iren has signed a US$9.7 billion multi-year agreement with Microsoft to provide GPU-based cloud infrastructure for artificial intelligence workloads. Under the deal, Iren’s US subsidiary, IE US Hardware 3, will supply Microsoft with access to dedicated Nvidia GB300 GPU capacity over a five-year period.
The infrastructure will be hosted at Iren’s “Horizon” data centre complex in Childress, Texas, which will consist of four facilities with a combined 200 MW of IT load. Deployment is planned in several phases throughout 2026, with Microsoft making a 20% prepayment on each tranche.
To support the delivery, Iren has entered into a US$5.8 billion supply agreement with Dell Technologies for GPUs and associated equipment. The company said it will fund the required capital expenditure through a mix of existing cash, customer prepayments, operating cash flow and additional financing initiatives.
Announcing the deal, Iren co-founder and co-chief executive Daniel Roberts said: “We’re proud to announce this milestone partnership with Microsoft, highlighting the strength and scalability of our vertically integrated AI Cloud platform.”
He added: “This agreement not only validates Iren’s position as a trusted provider of AI Cloud services, but also opens access to a new customer segment among global hyperscalers.
It marks another major step forward for Iren as we continue to expand large-scale GPU deployments across our 3GW secured power portfolio in North America, reinforcing our position as a leading AI Cloud Service Provider.”
Jonathan Tinter, Microsoft’s president of business development and ventures, said the collaboration would help deliver AI infrastructure for enterprise customers: “Together with Iren, Microsoft is delivering cutting-edge AI infrastructure for our customers,” he said. “Iren’s expertise in building and operating a fully integrated AI cloud, from data centres to GPU stack, combined with their secured power capacity makes them a strategic partner.
He added: “This collaboration unlocks new growth opportunities for both companies and the customers we serve.”
The agreement strengthens Iren’s position as an emerging global provider of AI cloud services. The company, headquartered in Sydney, Australia, has expanded its focus from cryptocurrency mining to AI infrastructure, operating data centres across North America.
The Childress site, where the GPUs will be deployed, has 750 MW of total secured power capacity and potential for further expansion. Across its wider portfolio, Iren controls up to 3 GW of grid-connected capacity, which it says provides the scale to support future large-scale AI and high-performance computing projects.
