Naver Cloud Partners with Intel to Build AI Chip Ecosystem in Korea

Naver Cloud, the cloud computing division of Korea’s tech powerhouse Naver, has revealed its collaboration with U.S. chipmaker Intel to establish a robust artificial intelligence (AI) chip software environment in Korea.

According to a report by Yonhap, the partnership will involve providing IT infrastructure leveraging Intel’s AI accelerator, Gaudi, to support AI research endeavors and software development initiatives by Korean startups and academic institutions, as stated by Naver Cloud.

Additionally, the two entities will establish a joint research hub named Naver CloudㆍIntelㆍCo-Lab (NICL), fostering collaboration between Naver Cloud and various startups and university laboratories.

Expected to launch later this year, NICL will engage teams from around 20 universities and startups, including esteemed institutions such as the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and Seoul National University.

Naver Cloud has outlined plans to conduct trials of Intel’s Gaudi 2 AI accelerator and collaborate with the chip giant to devise a commercial cloud platform. The objective of this partnership, as highlighted by Naver Cloud, is to expand an AI ecosystem centered on Naver’s AI model, HyperClova X, utilizing Intel’s AI chips.
