Minister Calls for Affirmative Policies to Boost Data Center Industry in Indonesia

Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi has urged the Indonesian government to implement affirmative policies to foster growth in the country’s data center industry. He emphasized the industry’s pivotal role in driving economic development and technological advancement.

In a press release issued on Thursday, Setiadi highlighted that the expansion of the data center industry is a key component of Indonesia’s digital transformation strategy. He underscored the nation’s potential to become a regional and international hub for data centers.

To create a conducive environment for investment and competition, the minister advocated for affirmative policies. He proposed strengthening existing regulations, such as the Electronic System and Transaction Implementation Regulation and the Kominfo Minister’s Regulation on Electronic System Implementation in the Public Sector.

Additionally, Setiadi suggested reviewing and potentially amending regulations related to private sector data centers to optimize their economic value. He noted that the goal is to enhance legal certainty and foster a fair business environment.

The minister emphasized the importance of comprehensive policies that address various aspects of the industry, including data classification, access to electronic systems, data for law enforcement, and investment facilities.

By implementing these measures, Setiadi expressed optimism that the data center industry can flourish and contribute significantly to Indonesia’s digital transformation aspirations.
