Meta has announced the construction of a new artificial intelligence–focused data center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The facility will be the company’s first in the state, its 28th in the United States, and 32nd globally. It is being designed specifically to support large-scale AI workloads.
The project represents an investment exceeding US$ 1 billion in addition to the core build, more than US$ 25 million is allocated for associated infrastructure, including road upgrades and water systems. The data center’s electricity consumption is planned to be matched with 100 percent clean energy with over 1,500 MW of additional renewable capacity being added to the regional grid.
According to a Meta blog post, the energy demand from the facility will be supported through grid infrastructure investments funded through utility payments that include expenditures on substations and transmission systems.
The data center will incorporate a closed-loop liquid cooling system designed to minimize water consumption. This system recirculates water within the facility and is expected to operate without additional water use for most of the year. The operator will cover the full cost of water and wastewater services required for the site.
The project also includes a long-term agricultural water optimization initiative in the surrounding area. This program will deploy sensor-based irrigation technology across approximately 1,500 acres of crops, with an estimated 50 million gallons saved yearly.
Overall, the Tulsa data center is being positioned as a large-scale AI infrastructure site with integrated resource management systems for energy and water efficiency, alongside supporting investments in regional infrastructure.
