Maxis has agreed to enter into a 5G access agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), as announced by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
Minister Fahmi Fadzil shared on his Facebook page that this development signifies that all major telecommunications companies in Malaysia will soon offer 5G services.
This collaborative agreement was the outcome of a series of meetings that took place subsequent to the cabinet’s decision on May 3rd. According to this decision, the 5G approach would transition to a dual-network model once the ongoing rollout by DNB has achieved coverage of 80% of densely populated areas.
Fahmi Fadzil had previously mentioned that companies including CelcomDigi, Telekom Malaysia, U-Mobile, and YTL Communications are in the process of finalizing their shareholding within DNB.
These entities will also actively contribute to the advancement of the 5G network, supporting its expansion to cover 80% of densely populated areas by the end of this year.
Malaysia is establishing itself as one of the global leaders in 5G connectivity through its high-speed networks. The recently published report by OpenSignal reveals that Malaysia has made substantial improvements in its 5G network experience.
With an increasing number of 5G deployments and upgrades, the country has witnessed a surge in average 5G download speeds and lower latency.
In May, the government stated that a task force will be established to ensure that DNB’s 5G network provides 80% coverage in the country.
In June, Maxis joined forces with Telekom Malaysia for enhance nationwide mobile connectivity in Malaysia.
Recently, the potential of 5G technology in Malaysia was demonstrated when Minister Fahmi Fadzil experienced its speeds first-hand on his personal phone, reaching 692Mbps.
