The Malaysian Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil has announced that 73% of populated areas in Malaysia now have 5G network coverage.

The minister, referring to feedback from Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), expressed confidence in the government’s progress towards achieving an 80% coverage in populated areas by the year’s end. With only 7% remaining to reach this goal, DNB has identified several challenges, primarily related to land issues.

Minister Fahmi has communicated with the chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din, urging relevant parties to address these pending issues.

He emphasized that 5G is a national initiative that requires a collaborative effort to expedite progress and development in the country.

As of September 2023, 5G adoption in Malaysia stands at 9.1%. Speaking further on this adoption, Fahmi shared his visit to a DHL warehouse center that utilizes 5G for robotics and drone services.

The company reported a significant improvement, counting nearly 8,000 pellets per day with 5G technology, compared to only 1,000 when counted manually.
