Malaysia And Singapore To Witness Sustained Demand for Private and Hybrid Cloud Services

The demand for private and hybrid cloud services remains strong in Malaysia and Singapore as seen through the surging investments in data centers throughout the region.

According to the report by Information Services Group (ISG), the escalating demand for top-tier computing resources, such as green data centers and powerful hyperscale capabilities, lies at the core of the data center industry’s expansion.

The report highlights that businesses are actively seeking data center services that can effectively address their requirements concerning security, sustainability, edge computing, customization, and compliance. This indicates a clear focus on customised solutions that cater to the specific needs and preferences of enterprises.

Malaysia is among the top destination for investments. In April, MN Holdings Bhd announced its partnership with China’s Shanghai DC-Science Co Ltd to work together on building a high performance data center in Johor. As for security, Acronis has opened its first cyber cloud data center in Malaysia in May. The data center aims to provide a range of cyber protection solutions and manage data protection needs.

In March this year, Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced that it will be investing RM25.5 billion in Malaysia to develop its cloud services infrastructure in the country. Other leading data center providers in Malaysia include AIMS DC, Bridge DC, TM One, NTT Communications, Strateq, Basis Bay, HDC and others.

Singapore has also been in the forefront of improving its digital ecosystem. Just recently, the country launched new standards for data centers to support the growth of compute capacity while ensuring environmental sustainability. Singapore is also embarking on a significant project called the Digital Connectivity Blueprint to enhance its internet and technology infrastructure.

The country also aims to reinforce its status as an open economy and highly connected hub in Asia by increasing the number of submarine cable landing facilities.
