Maharashtra, one of India’s most industrially advanced states, has set its sights on establishing Mumbai and Navi Mumbai as thriving data center hubs. With a significant investment of Rs 95,000 cr, the state aims to create a robust infrastructure that will attract global technology companies and position itself as a leader in the digital economy. The Maharashtra government was among the first few states to have its IT policy in the late 1990s, which was updated in 2015, and now in 2023.
The investment of Rs 95,000 cr will be utilized to build world-class data centers and generate 35 lakh jobs in the state. The government plans to offer incentives such as stamp duty waiver, electricity duty waiver, electricity tariff subsidy, permission to use electricity through open access, essential service status, network infrastructure, and associated support services.
Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, already serve as major business and financial centers in India, hosting numerous multinational corporations. By leveraging the existing infrastructure and expertise, Maharashtra aims to attract leading technology companies to establish their regional data centers.
