South Korean IT service firm, LG CNS Co. will partner with VNPT, Vietnam’s state-run telecom giant Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, to develop a hyperscale artificial intelligence data center in Vietnam, following its US$ 72 million contract to build an AI data center in Indonesia last week, the company announced on Tuesday, according to reports.

The company signed a tripartite agreement with VNPT and Korea Investment Real Asset Management during a forum in Seoul in which LG CNS will provide AI and cloud technology as well as data center design and operations expertise including providing servers, storage hardware and networking systems, drawing on technologies from its sister companies under the LG Group such as LG Electronic Inc. and LG Energy Solution Ltd. The same services including liquid cooling and battery storage will apply to its deal in Indonesia where the company became the first South Korean company to successfully win an AI data center project outside of Korea.

VNPT is a leading ICT player in Vietnam with huge investments in the digital transformation project including data centers following the Vietnamese government’s strong push into the digital sphere. Details are however scant about the joint data center project in Vietnam.

In Indonesia however, LG CNS revealed that its AI-ready hyperscale data center, located in Jakarta, will have an initial capacity of 30 megawatts with plans to expand to 220 MW, potentially one of the largest in the country. The company further revealed that it plans to rapidly expand its footprint into the Southeast Asian market including Singapore and Malaysia.

LG CNS operates nine data centers in its homeground.
