Khazna Data Centers teams up with Benya Group to enter Egypt market

Khazna Data Centers, that boasts of one of the largest networks of hyper-scale data centers in the Middle East and North Africa region, has joined hands with the Benya Group, a leading digital and ICT infrastructure provider in Egypt and the MEA Region, to enter Egypt’s emerging data center market.

The companies had first indicated that they were planning a step in this direction in May 2023, when they disclosed that they wanted to build the country’s first hyper-scale data center in Egypt’s Maadi Technology Park, backed by a combined investment totalling more than US$ 250 Million.

According to a press release, the new data center will provide an additional 25 MW of IT load, and play a vital role in supporting the development of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Shareholders Agreement was finalised and signed at a glitzy ceremony held on the first day of the Cairo ICT 2023 event.

The agreement was signed by Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO of Khazna Data Centers and Eng. Ahmed Mekky, Chairman and CEO of Benya Group. Also present were several high profile dignitaries from the world of business, technology and governance. These include Her Excellency Mariam Khalifa Alkaabi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Egypt, Mr. Hossam Heiba, President of the General Authority of Free Zones and Investment (GAFI), and Dr. Mohamed Farid, Chairman of Financial Regulatory Authority.

Speaking on the occasion, Hassan Alnaqbi, CEO Khazna Data Centers, said, “This collaboration represents a pivotal step in our continued efforts to boost digital infrastructure not only in the UAE, but also the wider region, laying the groundwork for a technologically advanced future.” He further explained, “The new data center will provide crucial support to businesses in Egypt seeking to expand internationally, offering state-of-the-art solutions that cater to the needs of multinational corporations striving to grow and innovate in the Middle East and North African markets.”

Ahmed Mekky, Chairman and CEO of Benya Group, said, “The establishment of this data center will help Egypt to become a focal point for technological innovation and digital transformation, reaffirming its stature within the global digital landscape. It will also elevate operations in Africa and the Middle East, driving investments and fostering cloud computing and content systems.”
