K2 and TNB Secure Power Deal for K2’s Hyperscale Data Center Campus in Johor

K2 Data Centres (“K2”) and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (“TNB”) have joined forces to forge an Electricity Supply Agreement (“ESA”) aimed at securing a stable power supply for K2’s inaugural hyperscale data center campus situated within Malaysia’s Sedenak Tech Park (“STEP”) in Johor Darul Ta’zim.

In recent months, K2 and TNB have diligently collaborated on various fronts, culminating in the submission of three separate ESA applications. The forthcoming JHR1 Data Centre Campus is poised to boast an impressive day-ultimate gross power capacity of 300MW, which will be expertly delivered by TNB.

Anticipated to be operational by the first quarter of 2024, the interim 275kV power supply is set to energize this cutting-edge data center campus. K2 and TNB are fully committed to nurturing a long-term strategic partnership dedicated to the development of world-class digital infrastructure, thereby bolstering the exponential growth of Malaysia’s digital economy.

Earlier this year, TNB and GDS have also signed a Supplemental Agreement to the Electricity Supply Agreement (ESA) to ensure that the GDS data centers in Johor Bahru receive a dependable and swift supply of electricity.

The agreement enables the GDS Nusajaya Tech Park Phase 1 Data Centers to commence operations in July 2023 with an interim supply of 16MW, followed by a permanent supply of 85.5MW to be established within the same year.
