A major new data center development may soon commence in western Finland after a substantial land parcel was sold in Isojoki municipality.
According to reports from Finnish media outlets, including national broadcaster Yle, the Isojoki municipal government has agreed to sell a 180-hectare (approximately 445-acre) plot of land near the Pettenkangas industrial area for around €10 million (US$ 11.6 million). The site is allocated for a large-scale data center complex project that could receive a significant investment and create infrastructure growth in the South Ostrobothnia region.
Isojoki Data Center Oy is leading the development with the support of a Nordic real estate development group. The firm has not yet disclosed any detailed plans, such as the total capacity, design specifications, or the scale of data operations, however early indications suggest that construction would start in September 2026.
Local officials have confirmed to media outlets such as Yle and stated that the land transaction marks a major step towards attracting digital infrastructure investment to the area. The deal is expected to provide a boost to the municipality’s economy and create new opportunities for regional businesses.
Finland’s cool climate, stable electricity grid, sustainable commitment and access to renewable energy sources has increasingly attracted data center projects from several major technology companies that have already established or expanded data facilities across the country.
When completed, the Isojoki data center would be one of the largest digital infrastructure development projects in the region, designed to support Nordic and European data demands.
