According to Indian media reports, Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd has bought a 48 acre land parcel in Hyderabad for ₹267 crore (USD 32 Million approx.), and plans to build a data center on it.
The property is reportedly located in Ranga Reddy district in the southern Indian state of Telangana, about forty kilometres from the main city of Hyderabad.
The Economic Times based its report on documents accessed by Propstack, a data analytics firm. It also quoted an unnamed source who told the publication that Microsoft has big plans to expand its data centre business and will be developing one of the biggest data centres in the region. The unnamed source also claimed that the company paid a premium on the land, and that the company had acquired two more land parcels in Hyderabad for its data center business.
It is noteworthy that Microsoft has not confirmed the story and responded to a query saying, “We have no information to share at this time.”
Readers would recall that in March 2022, Microsoft had announced its intent to establish its latest datacenter region in Hyderabad. The Hyderabad datacenter region was to be an addition to the existing network of three regions in India across Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai. Microsoft set up its India operations in 1990, and in 1998, set up an India Development Center (IDC) in Hyderabad, which serves as IDC’s main campus today, while two more are located in Bengaluru and Noida.
