Asia Pacific data center platform BDx Data Centers has been ordered to pause work on the construction of a data center in Jakarta pending the obtaining of permits and an EIA report.
Based on a Youtube video uploaded recently, West Java governor Dedi Mulyadi was seen informing BDx representatives that construction work had to pause pending the required permits being obtained including an environmental impact assessment report.
BDx representatives were seen informing the governor that the permits were still in the process and are expected to be obtained by early October.
BDx has in September broken ground on its AI data center campus scalable to 640MW in Jatiluhur, West Java, Indonesia. Construction has begun on Building 1, the first of six planned buildings at the AI Campus 2 (CGK4) site. Building 1 will deliver 120MW of IT capacity in phases, with the first contracted phase expected to be ready for service in early 2027.
“The project is being halted not because it violates environmental rules. It’s being halted because the permits have not yet been issued,” Dedi said in a separate Youtube video noting that while he supported data center investment in West Java, he was concerned over water shortages.
Reuters meanwhile reported that BDx is still confirming the details.
