IJM Corp Bhd, a leading Malaysian construction, property and infrastructure company, has scored another data center job worth RM 873.9 million (US$ 208 million) following a RM 1.26 billion (US$ 300 million) contract announced last week, with both jobs forming part of the same hyperscale data center development within Elmina Business Park, in the state of Selangor, Malaysia, according to a press release by the company.
The latest contract, awarded by Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Raiden APAC Pte Ltd, covers the mechanical and electrical (M&E) fit-out works of a hyperscale data centre. Both jobs, with a total value of RM2.135 billion (US$ 500 million), form part of the same hyperscale data-centre development within Elmina Business Park, according to the statement.
Awarded to IJM’s wholly-owned unit IJM Construction Sdn Bhd., the deal covers fit-out works for one data hall, including the supply and installation of mechanical, electrical, security and telecommunication systems, as well as the coordination, testing and commissioning of all systems, services and equipment. Also included is the provision of office furniture and equipment. The start date is expected to be in the third quarter of 2026 with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2028.
Dato’ Lee Chun Fai, Group CEO & Managing Director, IJM Corporation Berhad, said: “Following the earlier core and shell package, this award marks a significant scale-up in IJM’s data-centre portfolio, underscoring market confidence in our delivery capability, execution strength and ability to manage large-format digital infrastructure. The Elmina project also reflects our growing foothold in Malaysia’s digital-infrastructure sector and builds on our collaboration with Sime Darby Property to deliver assets that meet the needs of global technology clients.”
Just last week, IJM announced a RM 1.26 billion core and shell package awarded by Sime Darby Property Bhd to IJM Construction to build the main building of a hyperscale data centre, also located at Elmina Business Park. The job, which covers the construction, completion, testing, and commissioning of the facility’s core and shell, along with related infrastructure works, is expected to start in the fourth quarter of 2025 with completion is expected by the second quarter of 2027.
According to Sime Darby’s press release, the contract marked the main construction phase for the hyperscale data centre, which Sime Darby Property had secured through a long-term build-and-lease agreement with Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raiden APAC Pte. Ltd. in December 2024 following a competitive tender process.
Spanning about 77 acres, the project reinforces Sime Darby Property’s ambition to establish Elmina Business Park as a regional hub for technology-driven developments.
“We are pleased to partner with IJM Construction, a company with a proven track record in delivering complex, large-scale projects, to execute the construction of this state-of-the-art facility,” said Dato’ Seri Azmir Merican, Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Sime Darby Property.
Within Malaysia, IJM’s domestic construction order book stands at about RM 9.3 billion, with fast-track industrial buildings — including data centres, electrical & electronic (E&E) facilities and logistics hubs — now accounting for about 55 per cent of the total, the fastest-growing segment in its portfolio. With its expanding experience in data-centre delivery, integrated capabilities across civil, structural and M&E works, disciplined project management and financial strength, IJM Construction is well positioned to capture opportunities in Malaysia’s growing digital and industrial-infrastructure landscape, according to the company’s press release.
