The surge of technology adoption in the digital transformation era, fuelled further by Covid-19, has enabled innovative technology providers to be more progressive in their service and solutions offerings.

China Mobile International (CMI) has been a leading example in Asia, where it has anchored its position to enable Chinese enterprises to leverage technology, thereby assisting them to expand their business globally. At the same time, CMI has enabled international enterprises to establish and grow confidently in mainland China.

An extensive infrastructure footprint

China Mobile International Limited (CMI) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile, mainly responsible for the operation of China Mobile’s international business. With Hong Kong as its launchpad, CMI has significantly accelerated global Internet Data Centre (IDC) development, creating a strong network for data centre cloudification.

Leveraging the strong support by China Mobile, CMI provides international telecom services and solutions to international enterprises, carriers and mobile users. Headquartered in Hong Kong, CMI has expanded its footprint in 36 countries.

CMI currently has 70 terrestrial and submarine cable resources worldwide, with a total international transmission bandwidth of over 78T, and a total of 170 POPs.

Meeting rapid expansion needs

CMI has evolved to serve the needs of its customers as they grow and develop in the digital transformation era. This infrastructure expansion of CMI also needs to be seen from the lens of Chinese companies expanding internationally as well as companies abroad who are looking to expand their presence in China.

It is here that Singapore has a distinct advantage as a regional hub in South-East Asia for Chinese enterprises. To enhance the global backbone network, CMI also invested in an international submarine cable system.

Currently, CMI has a total of 5 POPs set up in Singapore with interconnecting dark fibre rings and 3 submarine cables linking Singapore to the Eastern and Western regions, providing businesses around the world a platform to connect their international business.

An international data centre in Singapore was also officially launched in 2019. “It is specially designed for international enterprises who want to go into China, and Chinese enterprises expanding overseas,” said Ms Adelyn Ong, Managing Director of China Mobile International (Singapore).

Expanding MVNO in Singapore

In March 2020, a new Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) by CMI – CMLink Singapore was launched. CMLink Singapore aims to better address the needs of Singapore-based professionals who have businesses across the region with unique propositions like data that can be used in mainland China and Hong Kong without roaming charges and free IDD minutes to 6 destinations.

It also offers a 1-Card-Multi-Number service – auto forwarding of SMS and calls to a China Mobile mainland number or China Mobile Hong Kong number to a CMLink Singapore number. This is particularly useful for receiving OTPS, removes the hassle of carrying multiple phones and frees one from the worry of missing a call or important SMS. Customers also have the option of binding their existing China Mobile numbers or applying for a new number through CMLink Singapore.

CMI adheres to all government regulations mandated by the Chinese government and understands the pain points of Chinese enterprises and professionals working overseas.

A total Solutions provider

Leveraging the strong support by China Mobile, CMI is a trusted partner that provides comprehensive international telecom services and solutions to international enterprises, carriers and mobile users. CMI has successfully helped International and Chinese companies with their digital needs, dating back to many years.

With a number of years in doing so, we have technical expertise, familiarity of different industries and their IT needs, and have built an ecosystem of partners to enable cost efficiencies, said Ms Adelyn Ong, Managing Director of China Mobile International (Singapore). As a progressive, customer-centric and partner-centric organization, CMI is no longer just a telecom provider with connectivity solutions, but a holistic digital solutions provider for enterprises with a global footprint, spanning multiple continents.
