Event Summary
Datacenters serve as a pillar of Hong Kong’s industries–ensuring the operation and growth of the city’s finance and logistics services. Indeed, the digital transformation enabled by these centers is forecasted to add US$9 billion to Hong Kong’s GDP in the next three years–a year on year increase of 0.5%. So while Hong Kong is actually below the global and APAC average for automated processes deployed in the workplace, these figures are a sign of change to come.
In fact, Hong Kong has been quicker to adapt to new technologies now that 89% of the workforce is subject to flexible working arrangements in lockdown. The 5G, AI, Cloud, and IoT industries contributed only 5% to Hong Kong’s GDP in 2019 but are expected to grow an astonishing 60% by next year. This rapid proliferation of data-driven tech is only going to increase the demand on local data centers.
One of the big challenges facing Hong Kong will be retrofitting it’s legacy datacenters to accommodate these new requirements. How can sustainable technology be deployed effectively on the hyperscale, co-location and even edge network level? Even cloud native companies are being forced to reconsider their current systems in order to reduce limitations on their technology and strengthen their overall security.
Data is being generated and transmitted at a higher rate than ever, so where and how this data is stored bears huge implications on Hong Kong’s economic health and resilience.
W.Media is convening all of Hong Kong’s experts on data center management, sustainability and security to give you an inside look into one of the world’s most unique markets. Hear from industry leaders themselves on what other APAC markets can learn from HK’s data centers, and what you can expect in 2021 and beyond.
