Hillhouse Investment, a Singapore-based global alternative asset management firm, has launched TeraNova DC, a new data center platform in India. TeraNova DC is focused on developing and operating hyperscale, AI-ready and sustainable data center campuses.
The platform plans to invest approximately US$12–15 billion and develop over 2 GW of capacity across key Indian markets, including Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi NCR and Gujarat, by 2032. It has appointed industry veteran Sanjay Bhutani as CEO.
“India’s digitization vision is entering a defining phase,” said Bhutani. “As hyperscalers, enterprises and a new generation of AI start-ups scale their ambitions, the country will require gigawatt-scale data center campuses that provide compute-ready infrastructure and deployment certainty. At TeraNova DC, our ambition is to build a trusted infrastructure partner that helps customers turn their growth plans into operational capacity with speed, reliability and confidence.”
India drew Hillhouse’s attention due to increased cloud and artificial intelligence adoption, as well as its huge demand for digital payments, streaming, and e-commerce and enterprise digitalization, which are driving this growth and shaping demand for scalable, high-performance data center campuses.
TeraNova DC says that its development strategy will center on strategically located land banks, power-ready sites and scalable campus infrastructure. The company plans to build gigawatt-scale campuses designed for hyperscale cloud, enterprise and high-density AI workloads, with the flexibility to expand as customer requirements evolve.
The company said that it will adopt Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA), modular construction and prefabricated power and cooling systems to improve quality, consistency and deployment timelines. It further says that sustainability, resource efficiency and Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) will be embedded throughout design, construction, commissioning and operations.
