Professor WEN Yonggang

Associate Dean (Research), College of Engineering; Professor, School of Computer Science and Engineering | Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Professor WEN Yonggang is an IEEE Fellow and a Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. He has also served as the Associate Dean (Research) at College of Engineering at NTU Singapore since 2018, overseeing all research collaborations at the College. He served as the Acting Director of Nanyang Technopreneurship Centre (NTC) at NTU from 2017 to 2019, and the Assistant Chair (Innovation) of School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) at NTU from 2016 to 2018. He received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (minor in Western Literature) from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, USA, in 2008.

The DCWiz Sandbox System he has developed to transform data center operations & management (DCoM) with AI for business continuity and energy efficiency has been successfully deployed in various data centres, including those at Alibaba and the National Supercomputing Centre, Singapore. DCWiz’s integrated sandbox solution with industry-grade digital twin and AIoT has also received numerous awards including the recent 2020 IEEE TCCCPS Industrial Technical Excellence Award, the 2016 ASEAN ICT Awards (Gold Medal) and 2015 Datacentre Dynamics Awards 2015 – APAC.

Prof Wen’s research interests include cloud computing, green data center, distributed machine learning, blockchain, big data analytics, multimedia network and mobile computing. He has published over 200 papers in top journals and prestigious conferences, and received multiple best papers awards, including 2019 IEEE TCSVT Best Paper Award, 2015 IEEE Multimedia Best Paper Award, 2016 IEEE Globecom, 2016 IEEE Infocom MuSIC Workshop, 2015 EAI/ICST Chinacom, 2014 IEEE WCSP, 2013 IEEE Globecom and 2012 IEEE EUC. He was the recipient of the 2016 IEEE ComSoc MMTC Distinguished Leadership Award. He serves on editorial boards for multiple transactions and journals and was elected as the Chair for IEEE ComSoc Multimedia Communication Technical Committee (2014-2016).

Jay Weon Khym

Country Manager, Korea | Digital Realty

I have been appointed as Country Manager – Korea of Digital Realty since August, 2019 in the middle of engagement in network/connectivity consulting services from Dec-2018. We are building our own Digital Seoul 1 (ICN10) located within Sangam Digital Media City (DMC) which supports up to 12MWs of critical IT capacity with a robust, diversified and truly carrier neutral connectivity platform with the build completion in January 2022. Before joining, I had run my own start-up consulting firm of Khym & Jay Global which provided telecom consulting practices, marketing/sales support, account management and new market development in East Asia – mainly Japan and Korea for about 4 years.  I left AT&T Wholesale Asia Pacific in Mar-2015 after 23 year services. The last position at AT&T was regional managing director of Asia Pacific Wholesale Voice Business, following managing director of APAC Data Sales and other various executive positions in APAC.  I worked at international affairs as well as international telecom business group of DACOM Corp. for about 5 years.

Chang Cho

Board Member | Korea Data Center Council

Chang is the founder of Onion Software, a leading BMS(Building Management System) and DCIM(Data Center Infrastructure Management) solution provider in Korea over a decade. Onion Software, founded in 2000, is well known in the Korean data center industry as a unified BMS & DCIM player for most major large scale data centers including Korea Telecom, SK Telecom, LG U+, Samsung, Lotte and POSCO.

Along with 18+ years of data center experience, Chang has profound knowledge of data center construction and operation. He is a co-founder and a board member of KDCC (Korea Data Center Council), non-profit independent organization representing Korea data center industry with over 50 member companies.

He is, also, a technical board member of Green Data Center Certificate which is an organization authorized by the Korean government to bestow awards upon energy efficient data centers in the country. He has been investigated PUE and architecture almost every big data center in Korea as a judge for certificate award.

Chang has also been leading many Korea government R&D projects for innovative and disruptive data center technologies. In 2017, he got an award for the most successful R&D accomplishment from ‘Ministry of Science and ICT’.

Chang started his career in 1991 as a software engineer after graduating from Seoul National University with a master degree of computer science. After nearly 10 years’ experience as a software engineer, he moved to HP Korea as a senior consultant in 1999. He jumped on the bandwagon of the IT startup rush in Korea with a monitoring software for IT devices that conducted health checks. It was transformed and evolved into BMS and DCIM after several years as requirements for M&E infra monitoring has risen up.

In August 2017, he established Onion Technology Pte Ltd in Singapore to expand business into Singapore and the SE Asia market. He is CEO of both Korea and Singapore companies, staying both Asia’s top-tier cities half and half.
