GreenSquareDC advances 110MW Sydney data centre project with key approvals

GreenSquareDC has reached three milestones in the development of its flagship SYD1 data centre in Sydney, as the company pushes ahead with plans to build a 110MW campus designed for hyperscale and AI workloads.

The company has secured Stage 1 Development Application approval, unlocking an initial 15MW of AI-enabled capacity scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2026. It has also appointed construction firm Erilyan as general contractor for the first stage, citing its experience in hyperscale and liquid-cooled data centres. In addition, GreenSquareDC has obtained a Complying Development Certificate for demolition and enabling works, paving the way for site activation.

Backed by a commitment of up to AUD 1.2 billion from private markets investment firm Partners Group, GreenSquareDC wants to position itself as a major player in Australia’s data centre sector. The Sydney project follows the company’s acquisition earlier this year of the former IBM/Kyndryl facility at 3 Brookhollow Avenue in Norwest Business Park, which provides 20MW of existing capacity and expansion potential up to 96MW.

The new campus is part of a broader strategy that includes land options in Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. GreenSquareDC has emphasised that its facilities are being designed to meet high-density computing needs while aligning with its “Five Pillars to Sustainability” framework.

The company said the SYD1 project will provide sovereign, sustainable and scalable infrastructure to meet surging demand from hyperscale and AI customers.
