W.Media’s Greater Bay Area Cloud & Datacenter Convention (GBACDC) took place in Hong Kong recently, and it brought together over 550 professionals from the region’s digital infrastructure industry including top executives, decision makers, key buyers, end users, experts, market watchers and consultants. The day-long event took place at the Kowloon Shangri-La Hotel in Hong Kong on May 28, 2025.

The GBACDC saw keynote speeches, presentations, and power-packed panel discussions between industry veterans and experts through the day. Rosana Tang, Executive Director and Head of Research, Cushman & Wakefield, delivered the keynote address titled Resilience, Rebound and Reinvention: The Future of Hong Kong’s digital infrastructure at GBACDC. During the course of the day many other industry watchers and experts like Andrew Green (Regional Data Centre Practice Lead APAC, JLL) and Philip Hu (Managing Director, North Asia, Uptime Institute) also shared their insights and observations in a series of presentations and talks.

The GBA region is witnessing a surge in data center investments, due to not only the growing demand for interconnected services and solutions, but also mainland China’s need for reliable cross-border cloud services, reinforcing the importance of Hong Kong and the GBA in the global cloud ecosystem.

Teresa Tan (Content Manager, DC Byte) moderated a panel discussion between Marcello Brescia (Head of OTT at HGC Global Communications), Wang Kevin (General Manager of IDC and AI Department, China Telecom Global), James (Yu) Gong (Partner at Bird & Bird) and Jackal Chau (Senior Vice President – Service Delivery at HKBN Enterprise Solutions). They brought rich perspectives across telco, legal, and infrastructure angles.

“Despite the ongoing shifts globally, there’s strong confidence in Hong Kong’s role as a springboard for East-West collaboration. Of course, that’s not without challenges, given regulatory pressures, market uncertainty, and the need for constant adaptation,” said Tan, asking, “Tensions and opportunities coexist – so how do we balance innovation with compliance, or opportunity with uncertainty?”

Other prominent industry leaders such as Jack Ko (Chief Executive Officer, Keystone Group), Ben Li (Senior Director, Data Center Operations, Equinix), Dean Jones (Business Unit Director, North Asia, CBRE Data Centre Solutions), and Liu Eric Yang (Managing Director of Hong Kong, Global Switch), also participated in a panel discussion on revolutionizing data center operations using AI and automation.

“We witnessed an exceptional turnout, reflecting the growing and strong engagement from participants across the region. This remarkable response not only highlights the event’s importance but also reinforces the GBA’s rapid emergence as a leading innovation hub in Asia and beyond,” said Garris Lo, Commercial Director, Northeast Asia, W.Media. “The energy and collaboration displayed throughout the event have truly inspired us, and we are more motivated than ever to build on this momentum. Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate next year’s event, where we aim to further elevate the platform, foster greater innovation, and strengthen the vibrant ecosystem that is shaping the future of the Greater Bay Area.”
