Google has introduced a program in the Philippines aimed at assisting technology startups in their growth endeavors. The initiative, called the Google for AI Startups Cloud program, provides eligible companies with up to Php20 million (around USD 350,000) in credits on Google’s cloud computing platform.
Yves Gonzales, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations at Google Philippines, unveiled the program, emphasizing the challenges faced by AI startups in their early stages, including limited resources and a high risk of failure. Gonzales stressed the importance of support for these businesses, highlighting the hurdles they typically encounter.
The program targets pre-seed startups lacking funding and those with seed to series A funding with equity. Successful applicants will not only receive up to Php20 million in cloud credits over two years but will also have access to training, AI experts, and networking opportunities.
Google also pointed out that utilizing their cost-effective AI infrastructure could help companies save money while enjoying the advantages of advanced generative AI technologies.
Google has been announcing initiatives that involve collaboration with non-profit organizations, researchers, and experts in various fields to advance AI technologies.
In July, Google collaborated with Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT to run an artificial intelligence developer training program and conduct joint research. The ministry says it aims to expand and globalize Korea’s AI industry by increasing R&D with the U.S. tech giant.
The South Korean government is also considering collaborating with Google to operate an AI developer training program for developers and university students in the IT sector.
