Alphabet’s Google is reportedly considering establishing a large-scale data center in Vietnam. This would be the first major investment of its kind by a major US tech company in Vietnam.
A source familiar with the plans, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that Google is exploring the possibility of building a hyperscale data center near Ho Chi Minh City. This strategic location would capitalize on Vietnam’s southern economic hub and growing digital landscape.
The investment, while the exact size remains undisclosed, would be a substantial boost for Vietnam’s technology sector. Despite its burgeoning digital economy, Vietnam has lagged behind its regional counterparts in attracting major data center investments due to infrastructure challenges.
Google’s potential investment comes in response to the increasing demand for cloud services from both domestic and foreign clients in Vietnam. The country’s rapid digital transformation, particularly the popularity of Google’s YouTube platform, has solidified its position as a strategic market for the tech giant.
According to Reuters, Google declined to comment on the specific plans, but internal discussions are underway, and the data center could potentially be operational by 2027.
