Goodman restarts planning process for Cumberland site to develop $2.5 billion, 126 MW data centre

The Goodman Group continues its focus on data center development in the Sydney metropolitan area as it has withdrawn an existing approval application for a 70,000 square metre site in the Cumberland City Council area of Western Sydney.  The company has restarted the planning process in order to use the site for a major data centre development.

The development, referred to as Project Pluto would be 126 MW in capacity based on a three-storey structure with each storey housing 42 MW.  The Goodman Group announced earlier in 2024 that it was moving forward with a development at Gore Hill.

The profile of the request submitted for the Cumberland site indicates a data centre of 18 halls with 600 racks per hall and a density of just under 12kW/rack.  The building would also house offices.  The site offers access to electricity infrastructure since it is located opposite an Ausgrid facility and was used by Castrol as its HQ and as a lubricants facility.

The facility continues the trend of developing data centres in locations across the Sydney metro area away from the CBD.
