Goodman Group Breaks Ground on 50MW Data Center in Tsuen Wan

The Goodman Group, an Australian industrial expert, has commenced construction on their newest 50MW data center in Tsuen Wan, marking their eighth data center venture in Hong Kong. This project involves repurposing an old industrial structure, formerly referred to as the Goodman Texaco Centre, located in the core of one of Hong Kong’s three primary data center availability zones.

The Good Man Texaco Data Center in Tsuen Wan stands out with its pragmatic specifications, designed to meet the rigorous demands of contemporary digital infrastructure. Spanning a gross area of 381,722 square feet, inclusive of the roof area, and offering a typical floor plate size of 20,861 square feet, the facility provides ample space for critical operations.

Spread across 14 floors and a roof, the allocation of space is intelligently organized, with 11 floors dedicated to data halls and 3 floors, along with a roof, serving as substations. The floor-to-floor height of 6.3 meters under the beam and 4.7 meters in general ensures sufficient vertical space for equipment installation and maintenance, while the floor loading capacity of 15 kPa guarantees structural robustness under heavy equipment loads.

The center is supported by a total utility power of 50 MVA for both primary and alternative sources, complemented by an estimated IT power of approximately 32 MW, ensuring operational continuity. Additionally, with 3 FTNS lead-ins and 4 fuel tanks, each capable of storing 50,000 liters, providing approximately 12 hours of backup operations.

Goodman operates in key consumer markets in 14 countries across Asia Pacific, Europe and the Americas. Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, Goodman owns 18 industrial properties, some of which are currently under development.
