Global Switch, a data center operator, has signed an eight-year wind power purchase agreement (PPA) with RWE, a global renewable energy company, to supply renewable electricity to Global Switch’s London Docklands facility.

According to their joint press release, the agreement stipulates that RWE will supply 70 gigawatts (GW) of electricity per year from its Brechfa Forest West onshore wind farm comprising 28 turbines and 57.4 MW generation capacity in southwest Wales. The supply will be used to support operations at Global Switch’s central London data center, one of the company’s largest European sites, beginning from January 2026 until 2033.

Ulf Kerstin, Chief Commercial Officer, RWE Supply & Trading, said, “In view of the ongoing digitalisation and the increasing use of artificial intelligence in almost all areas of life, the number of data centers and their energy requirements are growing.”

Peter Domeney, Chief Operating Officer, Global Switch, said, “Our agreement with RWE is a critical next step on our journey to purchasing 100 percent renewable energy by 2030, and to the setting of new standards for what a sustainable, environmentally-conscious data center can look like.”

Global Switch plans to use 100 percent renewable energy across its operations by 2030 and is targeting a 1.2 power usage effectiveness (PUE) at its European sites. Its emissions reduction targets were approved by the Science Based Targets initiative in 2025.

The company’s London data center has 224 MVA secured power and is being expanded to support higher-density computing. In 2024, CoreWeave selected the site to host a major deployment of NVIDIA H100 and H200 GPUs in Europe. The facility is also being used to test liquid cooling systems.
