GDSI Invests RM1 Billion to Boost Malaysia’s Tech Industry

GDS International (GDSI) has announced a RM1 billion investment to establish integrated factories in Malaysia, creating 5,000+ jobs and generating RM5 billion in annual output. This move positions Malaysia as a global supply chain and advanced manufacturing hub for data centers.

The announcement was made during the GDSI Data Center Supply Chain Ecosystem Summit, which gathered industry leaders and experts to discuss the future of data centers and supply chain ecosystems in Malaysia.

GDSI has also formalized partnerships with Multimedia University and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to align talent development with industry needs. This initiative aims to cultivate a skilled workforce to support the growing data center ecosystem.

William Huang, Chairman of GDSI, emphasized the company’s commitment to building a robust supply chain ecosystem in Malaysia. He stated “With GDSI’s large-scale data center developments and the increasing demand from Malaysia’s market and future international markets, we aim to create a supply chain that caters to global needs.”

This endeavor has received strong support from the Malaysian government, aligning with the nation’s strategic goals of job creation and export growth.

Jamie Khoo, CEO of GDSI, expressed optimism about the future, stating, “Today’s achievements are just the beginning. Our commitment to integrating international supply chains with local partners will foster a collaborative ecosystem that enhances skills, operational efficiency, and innovation.”

YAB Dato’ Onn Hafiz Bin Ghazi, Chief Minister of Johor, commended GDSI and its partners for their commitment to the state’s technology-driven growth. He highlighted the positive impact of these investments on job creation and sustainable development.

Minister of Digital YB Gobind Singh Deo emphasized the importance of a robust supply chain for the data center industry, which serves as the backbone of the modern economy. He acknowledged Johor’s emergence as a leading data center hub and praised GDSI’s confidence in Malaysia’s thriving digital economy.

Deputy Minister of MITI YB Liew Chin Tong praised the summit and expressed his satisfaction with GDSI’s efforts to empower local companies to participate in the data center supply chain. He highlighted the summit’s significance in ensuring economic benefits for Malaysians.
