GDS and Indonesia Investment Authority (INA) have established an official joint venture with the goal of propelling the growth and development of the data center landscape in Indonesia.
After announcing their initial partnership on September 1 of this year, GDS and INA have now signed definitive agreements to solidify their collaboration, showcasing their steadfast dedication to combining resources, expertise, and shared visions to create a nationwide data center platform in Indonesia.
Their first project centers on the establishment of a hyperscale data center campus situated within the Nongsa Digital Park (NDP) in Batam, a region that the Indonesian government has officially designated as a Special Economic Zone (SEZ). This upcoming Batam data center campus will rely on local and renewable energy sources to meet its power needs.
Indonesia is a country with significant potential for digital economic growth. Thus, Indonesia is set to become the largest digital economy in Southeast Asia. The use and consumption of digital services are growing rapidly, requiring a robust digital ecosystem, including data centers.
Indonesia holds the distinction of securing the second-place ranking in the APAC region in the data center opportunity index, with 22 MW of take-up in 2022. This reflects the increasing demand for digitally empowered services in the country.
The data center industry is experiencing remarkable growth, primarily driven by the widespread adoption of cloud computing and the anticipated surge in AI applications.
