GDS launched the opening of its Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus today in Johor, Malaysia.
GDS Nusajaya Tech Park Data Center Campus, also known as GDS NTP Data Center Campus, is the first data center that GDS has launched in Southeast Asia. The phase 1 of the campus (consisting of Nusajaya 1, 2, 3 data centers or NTP1, 2, 3) has a total net floor area of 22,500 sqm, along with a total IT power capacity of 69.5 MW.
The campus integrates an environmentally friendly design and operates using solutions that facilitate rapid completion, within 14 months of NTP1. GDS has presence in key cities in the SIJORI region that include Singapore, Johor (Malaysia), and the Riau Islands Province in Indonesia. SIJORI represents a collaborative economic development framework involving three ASEAN nations – Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Its emphasis is on Singapore, Indonesia’s Riau province, and Malaysia’s southern Johor region.
The data center sector in Malaysia is experiencing a robust expansion, with projections indicating that the country’s data center capacity is poised to soar to approximately 422MW by 2025. This surge is expected as multiple ongoing data center projects near completion, effectively doubling the current capacity. The data center hubs in the country are located in Cyberjaya, Johor and Negri Sembilan with interests building in Kedah.
The entrance and expansions of data centers in the country are among the main drivers for supply growth, as reported by JLL Greater Kuala Lumpur – Property Market Monitor Q2 2023. Foreign investments continue to pour into the data center industry in Malaysia, with significant announcements from key players. Among the investments in the country include NextDC’s plans for a 65MW colocation data center. Additionally, Singtel and BridgeDC have also revealed their respective development projects in the region, signaling strong confidence in Malaysia’s data center market.
