GDS has announced the successful completion of customer move-in at HK1, its inaugural self-constructed data center situated in the Kwai Chung district of Hong Kong. With a total IT power capacity of 18.8MW and an expansive floor area of approximately 22,931 sqm, HK1 is a significant achievement for GDS.
Aligned with the Hong Kong government’s dedication to advancing digital economic development, GDS envisions HK1 evolving into a pivotal carrier-neutral, multi-cloud, and data exchange hub within the Asia-Pacific region.
The company anticipates that HK1 will play a crucial role in supporting the cross-regional business operations, low-latency international network requirements, and internet data transmission needs of enterprises from both overseas and mainland China.
William Huang, Chairman and CEO of GDS, underscores the significance of HK1 as the company’s inaugural self-built and self-operated data center in Hong Kong. This milestone signifies a key step in GDS’s strategy to establish a high-performance data center cluster in the city.
Currently overseeing or soon-to-operating 18 data centers within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, GDS extends its presence beyond HK1 to locations such as Huizhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Heyuan.
Additionally, the strategic expansion approach is evident in Huidong County of Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, serving as the base for the Greater Bay Area data center.
Looking ahead, GDS expresses its proactive commitment to expanding within the Hong Kong market. The company aims to introduce additional data centers in the region, aligning with its mission to support customers’ innovative developments and contribute to the transformation of Hong Kong into a smart city.
