ESR Group is Set to Establish its Fourth Data Center in Japan

ESR Group has announced plans for its fourth data center in Japan, a 60 MW facility in Ariake, Koto-Ku, Central Tokyo. This new development adds to their existing projects: the 130 MW Cosmosquare Data Centre campus in Osaka, the 100 MW Keihanna Data Centre campus in Kyoto, and the 30 MW Higashi Kurume Data Centre in Tokyo. Construction on the Ariake site is slated to begin in Q2 2026, with completion expected by Q4 2028.

Stuart Gibson, Co-founder and Co-CEO of ESR Group, highlighted that data centers are pivotal to the company’s growth strategy. The Ariake development is set to expand ESR’s portfolio across Japan and the Asia-Pacific region. ESR’s platform boasts a substantial 1.5-gigawatt (GW) data center pipeline in major cities including Hong Kong, Osaka, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Mumbai, and Singapore.

Japan, one of the largest and fastest-growing data center markets globally, will benefit significantly from the Ariake project, which aims to increase capacity in Central Tokyo.

ESR Data Centre Fund 1, the Group’s data center investment fund, has secured US$1.35 billion in equity commitments for digital infrastructure investment. Diarmid Massey, CEO of ESR Data Centres, emphasized the need for data centers in urban areas like Ariake to support time-critical applications and future workloads.

The demand for modern, energy-efficient data centers in Tokyo and Osaka is rising as outdated digital infrastructure requires replacement. ESR is committed to partnering with operators and hyperscalers to expand their data center portfolio throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

The new Ariake site will address the significant demand for capacity in one of the world’s largest data center markets, offering hyperscale, cloud, and large enterprise clients the scalability and connectivity required to meet future growth demands.

The facility will feature higher rack densities and industry-leading energy efficiency and building standards, supporting evolving workloads such as artificial intelligence and machine learning while achieving sustainability targets.
