Equinix to invest USD 1 billion in Saudi Arabia

Equinix, a global player in the digital technology and connectivity ecosystem, has announced plans to invest US$ 1 billion into building digital infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. The announcement was made during LEAP 2025 in Riyadh.

According to a presentation made by Equinix at the technology conference Equinix will develop carrier neutral data center facilities, to meet the growing demand for cloud, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and enterprise workloads. The data center facilities will deliver high-performance interconnection solutions for enterprises and hyperscalers through the Equinix fabric platform.

In a post on LinkedIn, the Saudi Ministry of Communications said, “Equinix announced a $1B investment, the largest in the MENA region, to develop a carrier-neutral data center in Saudi Arabia, to meet the growing global demand for cloud, AI, and enterprise workloads.”

At present Equinix has six facilities in four cities in the Middle East: in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Muscat and Salalah.

LEAP 2025 is organized by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Saudi Federation for Cybersecurity, Programming, and Drones (SAFCSP), and Tahaluf Company, supported by the Events Investment Fund. AI investments to the tune of over US$ 14 billion were announced on the first day itself. This was followed by another set of investment announcements worth US$ 7 billion.
