Equinix Inc. has announced the opening of two International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in Johor and Kuala Lumpur. This move strengthens Malaysia’s position as a regional digital hub and provides businesses with access to a vast global network.

The new data centers offer Malaysian businesses a gateway to a global ecosystem of over 10,000 enterprises, network providers, and cloud service providers. This connectivity fuels digital transformation and facilitates the adoption of cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).

Equinix’s expansion also aligns with Malaysia’s MyDIGITAL initiative, which aims to accelerate the development of digital products and services. Additionally, it reflects confidence in the country’s industrial landscape undergoing transformation under the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030.

Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, sees the data centers as a boon for businesses, especially domestic SMEs. They will benefit from seamless connectivity, access to a global network, and potential for innovation across various sectors. He expects this investment to create high-value jobs, propel economic growth, and empower Malaysians to thrive in the digital age.

Moreover, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) recognizes the significant opportunities these advanced data centers present for local businesses. Chief Executive Officer Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid believes they will empower local enterprises to innovate and grow through integration with the global ecosystem
