Equinix Expands Malaysia Footprint with RM23 Million Land Acquisition

Equinix has announced a significant investment of RM23 million (approximately US$5 million) to acquire land in Cyberjaya from Cyberview Sdn Bhd. This strategic move aims to bolster Equinix’s data center capacity in Malaysia, catering to the surging demand for reliable and high-performance digital infrastructure in the region.

The newly acquired 14,300 square meter land parcel, located less than a kilometer from Equinix’s existing KL1 International Business Exchange (IBX) data center, will serve as a strategic expansion to support the growing digital ecosystem in Malaysia. The country’s thriving digital economy, driven by factors such as a large internet user base, supportive government policies, and strategic geographic location, has positioned Malaysia as a key player in Southeast Asia’s digital transformation landscape.

“Malaysia boasts a substantial Internet user base, with a staggering 96.8% of the population actively engaging in various digital activities such as video streaming, online shopping, online banking and gaming.” said Cheam Tat Inn, Managing Director, Equinix Malaysia. “Consequently, businesses operating in Malaysia are increasingly seeking secure and scalable data center services and access to digital ecosystems to meet the demands of this tech-savvy consumer base.”

Kamarul Ariffin Abdul Samad, CEO of Cyberview, expressed enthusiasm about the investment, highlighting Cyberjaya’s role as Malaysia’s leading tech hub. “Equinix’s expansion in Cyberjaya is a testament to our commitment to fostering innovation and creating a conducive environment for tech companies,” he said.

The data center market in Malaysia is projected to experience substantial growth, reaching an estimated US$3.97 billion by 2029, with a CAGR of nearly 14%. Equinix’s expansion in the country is expected to contribute significantly to this growth trajectory.
