Data center operator Equinix and Nvidia have recently joined forces to provide corporate clients with access to the chip firm’s supercomputing systems. This collaboration aims to facilitate companies in acquiring their own artificial intelligence (AI) computing systems.
For numerous large businesses, the desire to own AI computing systems is fueled by concerns related to privacy and security. However, implementing Nvidia systems in conventional data center servers involves variations in networking cabling and, at times, the utilization of liquid cooling methods.
As part of their partnership, Nvidia has provided training to Equinix staff on the construction and operation of its systems. The arrangement allows corporate customers to procure Nvidia systems while entrusting Equinix to efficiently build and manage them, all while maintaining ownership.
Reuters reported that Jon Lin, the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Data Center Services at Equinix, emphasized the significance of prioritizing privacy. He explained that many large customers express apprehension about maintaining control over their destinies.
Lin added that while the ownership aspect addresses privacy concerns, efficiently operating AI data centers presents a new and distinctive set of capabilities that are not readily available.
This collaboration underscores the evolving landscape where companies seek to balance ownership, control, and operational efficiency in the realm of AI computing.
