Vodafone Business has partnered with Elsewedy Electric Group, a multinational energy, digital, and infrastructure solutions provider, and Cassava Technologies, a global technology firm, on the Africa Data Centers Egypt project to build one of the largest data centers in the country.
The data center aims to have 20 MW of capacity at first, expanding to 200 MW to host large-scale AI workloads. According to a press release, the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Raafat Hindy, anticipates that the project will attract US$ 200 million in its first phase, growing to a total investment of US$ 1 billion by the time the buildout is complete.

Hindy said that Egypt is working to expand data centers and their capabilities. This includes preparing an integrated national strategy for data centers that outlines the storage and computing needs of the state and economic sectors. This strategy aims to attract both foreign and local investments.
Ahmed Al Suwaidi, Elsewedy Electric Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Directo,r said that the Africa Data Centers Egypt project combines its expertise in the fields of energy, infrastructure and implementation, with the expertise of its partners in data centers and technology. President and Chief Executive Officer of Cassava Technologies, Hardy Pemhiwa, noted that Egypt is a pivotal market in its mission to develop digital infrastructure across Africa and the Middle East.

Demand for cloud services and AI applications is increasing steadily, which means that data hosting and processing capabilities need to increase as well. In line with that, Arizton Advisory & Intelligence forecasts that as of April 2026, the data center market will swell from a value of US$ 305 million in 2025 to US$ 865 million by 2031.
