India’s Edge data center market is poised to grow, and it could potentially become worth over US$ 3 billion by 2033, finds a report by IMARC Group, a market research firm. According to the report, IT & Telecom have cornered a lion’s share of the Edge data center market in India, followed closely by BFSI, retail and e-commerce, government and healthcare.

The report found that India’s Edge data center market size reached US$ 428.5 million, and that looking forward, IMARC Group expects the market to reach US$ 3,005.8 million (or just over US$ 3 billion) by 2033, exhibiting a compounded average growth rate (CAGR) of 19.5 percent during 2025-2033.

“The widespread adoption of IoT devices and the emerging digital learning trends are primarily augmenting the market growth across the country,” said the report. “In the era of the Internet of Things (IoT) and increasing digitization, the demand for real-time analytics and insights has surged.” Apart from this it also finds that “the advent of 5G technology, and the growing need for low-latency applications are key drivers propelling the adoption of edge data centers in the country.”

W.Media has been reporting on a slew of announcements surrounding new investments into Edge data centers, especially in non-metropolitan areas. These include plans unveiled recently by NES Data Pvt Ltd., to rollout edge and containerised data centres, in Tier II cities and underserved regions across India. The facilities, set to go online next month, will be designed for low-latency, high-efficiency performance and rapid deployment.

Before that, in May 2025, Techno Digital Infra Pvt. Ltd., the wholly owned digital infrastructure arm of Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd. (TEECL), had announced plans to develop hyperscale and edge data centers totaling to 250MW across India, backed by an ambitious investment plan worth US$ 1 billion. The edge data centers will be developed in partnership with RailTel Corporation of India, a public enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. As many as 102 such facilities have been planned across the country with the aim to bring low-latency computing closer to users in Tier II & III cities.

CtrlS Datacenters, a key player in South Asia’s data center landscape, has also dipped its toes in the edge data center market. It operates edge facilities in Patna and Lucknow, with further expansions planned in these markets along with GIFT City (Gujarat), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), and Guwahati (Assam).
