Announcement: DXN Limited  announced via the ASX on 22nd September 2023 that it has entered into a contract with the Government of Timor-Leste to supply a Cable Landing Station. The total contract value is US$ 1.4m (AU$ 2.1m).

DXN’s CEO Shalini Lagrutta said that “DXN are delighted to be selected for this important nation-building project for the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste. This is the country’s first international cable landing station which we are proud to be part of. The cable landing station will be prefabricated and built in Australia, exported to Dili and thereafter installed and commissioned for connection with the NWCS in Australia.”

The Timor-Leste South Submarine Cable (TLSSC) project aims to construct a submarine cable connection between Díli in Timor-Leste and the North-West Cable System (NWCS) which spans Australia’s north and north-west coasts from Darwin to Port Hedland. The project depends on the cable landing infrastructure in Díli in order to provide a secure location for all the infrastructure that is required to terminate and operate the cable system.

DXN specialises in prefabricated modular data centre and the prefabrication of the modules for this project will start in DXN’s factory in Perth. It is expected that the Cable Landing Stations will be delivered by April 2024.

Analyst Opinion: This announcement indicates DXN’s continuing interest in the markets of South East Asia as evidenced also through the Exclusive Global Distribution Licensing Agreement signed earlier this year with Flow2Edge Holdings Pte Ltd covering markets outside Australia.  This expansion northwards is not unusual for Australian data centre providers in both the product and service spheres.  In the case of DXN, it appears to be linked to a greater focus on the market requirements for its offerings and on the company’s delivery of those.
