Dongyang, a subsidiary of South Korea’s Eugene Group, is considering building two data centers in South Korea. Local media reports say that these AI data center facilities will come up in Samjeong-dong, Bucheon-si in Gyeonggi Province, and Guwol-dong, Namdong-gu in Incheon. Construction for the projects is likely to begin in the first half of this year, and expected to end by 2028.
According to Maeil Business, the 9.8 MW AI data center that will be built in Bucheon will be spread across 3,593 square meters, and have two basement levels and four floors above the ground. Dongyang reportedly plans to operate this facility as a standard model for future expansion of data centers across the Seoul metropolitan area and other major hubs.
Meanwhile, the Incheon Guwol IA Hub Center, will have a site area of 2,016 square meters, two basement levels and nine floors above the ground. It will be an “urban and office expanded” AI data center. This facility is reportedly being planned to serve as the headquarters of a hub-based data center network that Dongyang will develop going forward.
Top Daily quoted an official from Dongyang as saying, “We are reinterpreting our land beyond mere development targets into strategic assets that will support the company’s future. Based on this, we will concretize our vision as an infrastructure platform company and provide differentiated infrastructure services.”
The publication further reports that even though both facilities will be built in different locations, they will operate as a single integrated digital infrastructure, and aim to enable ultra-low-latency services across the two sites. It further says that Dongyang is also comprehensively considering noise, vibration, and electromagnetic wave standards from the early stages of the design process to ensure optimal operation in urban environments.
Dongyang is a construction parts manufacturer, and part of the wider Eugene Group that is a conglomerate dabbling in construction, media, industrial and confectionary products.
