Event Summary
Businesses across Southeast Asia are looking to rapidly transform their operations using digital tools like artificial intelligence, cloud technology and the Internet of Things.
Surveys by Google and Computer Weekly revealed that digital transformation is a top priority for key decision makers. This is likely to have grown, as the pandemic has forced many organisations to embrace digital strategies and move their business online.
This is no surprise when Southeast Asia has a booming digital economy, digital startups disrupting the market and increasing internet access across the region.
Organisations of all sizes are digitally transforming and replacing legacy systems to speed up processes, reduce the risk of human error and give more time for activities that require more human effort and value.
But there are teething issues. In a survey by McKinsey, fewer than one-third of companies implementing digital strategies had been unsuccessful.
Most businesses, particularly SMEs, are struggling to keep pace with the increasing level of Internet and technological advancements. In a study by OEDC, many small and medium sized firms across Southeast Asia still do not use email, have their own website or receive orders online.
This begs the question: How can businesses overcome the challenges of digital transformation like digital skills, internet access, cybersecurity and more?
