Digital Realty, a leading provider of carrier and cloud-neutral data center solutions, has launched its Data Hub featuring AWS Outposts.
The hub removes data gravity barriers for enterprises by enabling them to rapidly deploy critical Amazon Web Services infrastructure at centers of data exchange on the company’s global data center platform, PlatformDIGITAL.
“Deploying AWS Outposts on PlatformDIGITAL enables customers to place hybrid IT workloads at centers of data exchange globally to reduce latency and improve performance on a single platform,” said Chris Sharp, the Chief Technology Officer at Digital Realty.
Digital Realty, an AWS Direct Connect Service Delivery Partner, developed the pre-configured Data Hub solution based on typical customer deployment scenarios for AWS Outposts.
“We are excited about this collaboration because digital transformation is forcing enterprise IT to re-architect towards a decentralized infrastructure delivery model,” said Mr. Sharp
The Digital Realty Data Hub for AWS Outposts provides critical infrastructure that enables enterprises to integrate public and private data sources, as well as achieve data compliance and control.
What is an AWS Outpost?
An AWS Outpost is a replica of hardware infrastructure, services and API that run in Amazon data centers. The Outposts extend AWS infrastructure to virtually any data center, colocation space or on-premise facility for a consistent hybrid experience.
Outposts enable customers to run services like Elastic Compute Cloud, which allows users to reduce demand on physical servers by running virtual servers as if they were in the cloud, and Simple Storage Service allowing the services running locally to be extended to the cloud.
AWS Outposts are connected to the nearest AWS region to provide the same management and control plane services on premises for a truly consistent operational experience across on-premise and cloud environments.
Implementing an infrastructure that uses the same interface can save the hassle and confusion of using hybrid products that have different management and maintenance tools.
Digital Realty’s recent Data Gravity Index has shown the importance of deploying hybrid IT infrastructure for local processing and storage requirements to improve performance while reducing cost, as global enterprises are expected to expand their digital infrastructure capacity due to the rising need for data stewardship, storage and management.
In the first half of 2020, AWS announced the availability of Outposts in Indonesia as well as India, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand.
