Digital Realty has marked the topping-out of ICN11, its latest data center development in South Korea, with the facility scheduled to become operational in the second half of 2027. ICN11 is intended to address growing demand for data center capacity in South Korea, driven by increased adoption of cloud services, connectivity and artificial intelligence infrastructure.

Once operational, the facility will expand Digital Realty’s infrastructure capacity in the country and support customers’ computing and connectivity requirements. The project is being developed with construction partners DPR Construction, DL E&C, Turner & Townsend, and Heerim Architects & Planners.

In a LinkedIn post, Digital Realty described the occasion as “The topping out isn’t just a construction milestone; it’s a powerful symbol of what happens when incredible teams come together to build something bigger than any one of us could achieve alone.”

Readers will recall that during Q2 2021, Digital Realty acquired a five-acre land parcel in Seoul, South Korea for US$ 66 million.

The parcel is located at Gurae-dong, Gimpo City in northwest Seoul, 14 miles from Digital Seoul 1 (ICN10), which was Digital Realty’s first facility in South Korea. Digital Realty’s new land parcel supported the development of the ICN11 facility which has 64 MW of critical IT capacity across 970k sq ft.

According to a Mordor Intelligence report, the South Korea data center market is projected to grow from US$ 1.96 billion in 2025, and US$ 1.99 billion in 2026, to US$ 5.02 billion by 2031, representing a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 20.38 percent between 2026 and 2031. The market is expected to expand from 3.25 thousand MW in 2025 and 3.51 thousand MW in 2026 to 15.88 thousand MW by 2031, registering a CAGR of 35.21 percent over the forecast period.
