Digital Connexion to open its First Indian DC in Chennai next week

Digital Connextion (previously known as BAM Digital Realty) is all set to open its first data center in India in Chennai next week. The announcement was made by none other than Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, which is an equal partner in the three-way joint venture with Brookfield Infrastructure and Digital Realty. Ambani was speaking at the Tamil Nadu Global Investor Meet 2024.

Media reports quoted him as saying, “Reliance has partnered with Canada’s Brookfield asset management and US-based Digital Realty to set up a state-of-the-art data centre, which will be opened next week.” The Chennai facility is said to be a 20 MW greenfield project. Another 40 MW data center is expected to come up in Mumbai. 2.15 acres of land has already been acquired for the latter.

This venture is Ambani’s foray into a space where his fellow-Indian industry heavyweights have already made inroads. These include AdaniConnex, Nxtra by Airtel, Yotta from Hiranandani’s stable, among others.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet has been attracting many global investors as well. The state aspires to become a trillion-dollar economy by 2030, and has been wooing both regional and global investors, mainly in the technology, banking, financial services and real estate spaces. CapitaLand, a real estate major that is also a huge player in the data center space, is all set to make million-dollar investments in business parks, logistics, warehouses and even a data center.
