Deta reaches $3.6 million in funding for world’s first personal cloud computer

Led by Crane Venture Partners, German technology startup Deta has raised a total sum of $3.6 million in seed funding in a bid to revolutionize computing with the world’s first personal cloud computer.

The launch of the platform, Deta Space, aims to offer users greater power and privacy through the cloud-based operating system, accessible from anywhere and from any device; backed by top companies such as System. One, Tiny.VC, Tomahawk.VC, NGINX and Notion. The initial idea, sparked by Deta Co-Founder and CEO Mustafa Abdelhai, came from personal use of software in the late 90s and 00s, running all software on your own PC. Abdelhai’s goal is fundamentally to return autonomy to users in a period where personal data is viewed as a commodity.

Deta Space is set to run on the company’s “Space OS”, allowing individual users autonomy over their own apps and data, rather than relying on larger platforms such as AWS. This new technology sees greater advancements from traditional web software, improving interconnectivity and privacy by allowing apps to store data in secure hubs which are user-controlled.

The project has seen over 67,000 developers sign up to build apps on the platform, signaling the rising demand for platforms centered around user control. Developments here could also suggest a considerable shift in AI and enterprise data, challenging the existing norms of the technology sector which is often manipulated and controlled by large corporations.

Ultimately, by shifting focus to a more human-empowered approach to computing, Deta Space may encourage larger companies to reconsider their relationship with customers, as well as data.
