Event Summary

The Southeast Asian OTT market is generally in a rapid growth phase, and according to a report released by Dataxis, SVOD subscriptions in Southeast Asia will keep on an upward trend from 2017 to 2022, with SVOD subscribers expected to grow to 6.2 million in 2022 and mobile subscriptions expected to grow to 60% by 2022. Meanwhile, the SVOD market in Southeast Asia is expected to reach $390 million in revenue.

While the Southeast Asian market is attractive, it is home to a variety of different cultures, religions, consumer preferences and, for many, strong government regulation. And, the Southeast Asian OTT market has a diversity of participants in a fierce competition – including some traditional media organizations that are also actively involved. Among them, multinational organizations, represented by Netflix, have made the market more competitive by strengthening localized content and implementing low-rate mobile offerings. In addition to many regional OTT players and national service providers, digital giants from the e-commerce and online taxi hailing sectors have also crossed over into the OTT space in recent years, making the market landscape even more complex.

At the same time, most countries in Southeast Asia are lagging behind in terms of digital infrastructure levels. Of 600 million Southeast Asian households, only 50 million have access to stable and high-speed broadband services, which is undoubtedly a huge challenge for OTT service providers that rely on Internet broadband to deliver content. How to provide high quality streaming media without latency and buffering in different regions has been a challenge for OTT service providers.

How to properly understand and evaluate the development opportunities in Southeast Asia OTT market? How to follow the industry regulatory policies of different countries? W.Media will focus on the above topics and invite industry experts to share the most cutting-edge industry information and deepest market insights.
