DCI Data Centers (DCI), a wholly-owned portfolio company of Brookfield, has officially initiated the construction of its inaugural data center in Seoul, South Korea. This venture is a result of a strategic Joint Venture with Daelim Co. Ltd., a prominent South Korean conglomerate with expertise spanning real estate development, engineering, and construction.
DCI’s inaugural data center in South Korea is poised to adhere to the latest industry standards, drawing on the company’s in-house design tailored for hyperscale clients and extensive computing deployments.
Nicholas Toh, the CEO of DCI, emphasized the significance of establishing their first Asian data center in Seoul as a pivotal step in DCI’s targeted expansion strategy in Asia. Seoul’s standing as a technology hub, coupled with its commitment to digital transformation, positions it as a crucial market for DCI’s customers. This strategic investment underscores DCI’s confidence in South Korea’s potential and showcases their ongoing capability to penetrate vital regions for their customer base.
Udhay Mathialagan, CEO of Brookfield’s Global Data Centre Platform and Chair of DCI Data Centers, highlighted that this initial foray into the South Korean data center market opens up a new realm of development for Brookfield’s Global Data Centre platform, presenting a substantial opportunity in a rapidly growing sector.
Since Brookfield’s acquisition of DCI in 2019, the platform has witnessed remarkable growth, expanding from two sites with less than 10MW to over 10 sites, securing 130 MW across various stages of development in the APAC region particularly in Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra, and Auckland.
