A fire broke out at Alibaba Cloud’s Availability Zone C datacenter in Singapore, leading to significant disruptions for services hosted by major tech companies including Lazada and Bytedance. The incident resulted in widespread errors for internal teams and sellers using the cloud platform.
Passionategeekz reported that according to an official statement from Alibaba Cloud, the fire caused an abnormal temperature rise within the data center. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze. While most cloud network and security products were successfully switched to backup systems, other services were still being affected.
Key cloud products such as cloud database Redis/MongoDB/RDS MySQL, object storage OSS, table storage OTS, and cloud native big data computing service MaxCompute have completed disaster recovery switching, ensuring business continuity for many customers. However, 18 abnormalities were still reported in the Singapore node.
The full extent of the damage and the timeline for recovery remain unclear. Alibaba Cloud is working diligently to restore normal operations and minimize the impact on its customers.
