CtrlS to invest US$ 482 Million in upcoming Chennai DC Park

CtrlS Datacenters Ltd., a major player in Asia’s data center market, and one with a growing footprint across India, has now announced that it is building its latest facility in Chennai. This will be their fifth hyperscale data center campus in India following Mumbai, Hyderabad, Noida and Bangalore.

Located in the Ambattur industrial area, the facility is still under construction. But eventually, the campus will include two data center buildings with a combined built-up area of almost 1 million square feet, and 72 MW IT load capacity.

In a press release, the company further revealed that it would invest Rs 4,000 crore (US$ 482 Million approx.) in the Chennai Datacenter Park, across phases. The company is also upbeat about the employment opportunities that project would create and expects it to create about 500 direct jobs and over 9,000 indirect jobs.

CtrlS further said that the first data center building (Chennai DC 1) is fully booked, and will begin operations in Q2 2024. The second data center building (Chennai DC 2) is slated to be launched in the second half of 2024 – and is presently accepting bookings. Chennai DC 2 is a Ground + 10 floor structure, with an IT load of 27 MW.

The company also listed a variety of advanced features of the upcoming facility such as a state-of-the-art 230 kV on-campus gas-insulated substation (GIS) and a building façade that will have solar panels. CtrlS also says that the facility is AI-Ready with advanced cooling technologies, and is also structurally designed to withstand earthquakes up to a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale.

Speaking on the occasion, Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder & CEO, CtrlS Datacenters, said, “We are delighted to unveil our upcoming Chennai DC Park. Chennai is the second largest data center market in India and holds strategic significance because of the presence of large number of subsea cable landing stations, coupled with the growing presence of enterprises and cloud service providers in the region.”

CtrlS Datacenters Ltd., which began its operations in 2007, operates 15 data centers across eight key markets and is set to build over 600 MW of data center capacity by 2029.
